The first two and a bit weeks

As you can tell from the first post, the decision to create a blog was not immediate. I certainly had more pressing things on my mind. My activity level so far in 2011 had been pretty ordinary, averaging only 3-4 hours a week. Easy to do when there is no goal on the horizon, but it also meant a lot of building to do in the next 12 months.  On the weekend after confirming my entry the intention was to test the current status with a few efforts.
On the Friday a 2k swim was planned.  It was only the second swim for the year so not a lot was expected.  Unfortunately not a lot was achieved apart from a very sore shoulder.  Heat packs and rub the order of the day.
The Saturday plan was a kick off ride but the Queensland summer continued with steady rain so a planned ride from Brisbane to the Gold Coast became a drive instead for a night at the Meriton Southport courtesy of our son Trent.
The final straw was an easy run along the Southport broadwater.  A slow 8k with the end result a very sore Achilles tendon.  This is a persistent injury for me, the result of a lot of hard miles a long time ago.
So the big kickoff weekend resulted in an immobile shoulder and a completely hobbled left leg.  Not a great start when you consider the long term goal.
The ensuing two weeks have been a lot more fruitful.  Week 1 was almost entirely cycling with a nice 80k ride through the Queensland countryside, Week 2 saw a better start to the swim and run efforts.
From here on my blog will be a bit more real time.  This is my way of being accountable to myself and the people who are supporting me.  It is easy to lose sight of a goal that by necessity is set so far out.  I also want to cover off the tools that I use to help me along the way and to give credit to the greater support crew.
The plan is for another good weekend effort, a report to follow on Monday
