Back in the groove

It took a while to recover from the Denver trip with no real recovery between the flights and work.  We landed in Melbourne on the Sunday after around 24 hours of travel and it was straight into work on the Monday.  In the first 5 days back I only managed 2 runs although they went well.  On the Saturday I had hoped for a good long bike ride but had a very flat and ordinary three and a half hours.  So after the two weeks affected by travel which barely produced 3 hours in total between them, the next week still only managed to climb to 6 hours.
This week just gone has been the first week back in the groove.  Some good bike and run time, and a really nice long ride today.  The weather here in Brisbane really came to the party today.  It was a beautifully sunny 23 degrees, no wind and a great day to belt out a steady 4 hours on the bike.  I am going to need to do some research on some new routes as the my current habit of riding down towards the Gold Coast and returning via a coastal meander is really topping out at about the 4 hour mark.  When you’ve done 4 hours and you’re close to home it is pretty hard to push on.  That’s a job for the hotel room one night this week.
This Thursday we are off to Port Douglas for a week to celebrate Jeff & Vanessa’s wedding.  It’s a great chance for a holiday, Port Douglas looks a beautiful place and the weather will be very warm up there.  Geoff is Deb’s personal trainer and does a great job.  He is the gym centre manager at Clem Jones in Carina, if you’re after some good workout advice, Geoff Murison is the man.  Looking forward to some decent training and recovery time up there.  Checked out a shop that hires bikes, resort looks like the pool is up to scratch, and the running looks idyllic.  I’ll try capture some pics to give everyone the general idea.
