Good intentions realised

Well good intentions come to fruition. Two posts in four days. Last week ended up totalling 9 hours. This was a reasonable effort with all the disciplines in the mix. The running share at just over one hour for the week is still too light but my dodgy Achilles tendons are recovering very slowly.

After the long ride Saturday morning with red dog Tri I was surprised how well I felt the rest of the day. However on Sunday morning it caught up with me and I was feeling pretty flat so I left the planned run until mid afternoon.
I had read an article in the Sunday paper about Toohey Forest, which is behind Mt Gravatt and barely 10k from the Brisbane CBD.  Bush running is not as easy to come by in metropolitan Australia as it is in New Zealand so the thought was appealing.  I left from the top of Mt Gravatt and it was a nice change from my usual suburban running, and a bit easier on the legs.

When I first dived into this whole year of training I managed to pick up two injuries pretty much from the first two sessions.  My shoulder has responded reasonably well simply by being very pedantic about technique.  Swimming is very much a technique sport and working with Trent Patten from Red Dog has helped a lot in this regard.  The Achilles as I mentioned above is still very much a work in progress.

We are all certainly looking forward to the next two weeks.  I fly back from Melbourne on Thursday for the Easter break which is extended by the observation of Anzac day on the 26th.  Add to that the Queensland Labour Day public holiday on the following Monday, and with 3 days leave taken a really good break of eleven days is achieved.  To make the most of this I’m taking the training pretty easy in Melbourne this week and will get in some long sessions over the break.
We have 3 nights booked in at the Mantra at Salt Beach resort which is right on the beach and looks fantastic.

If the weather holds up it looks like a good opportunity for one of those long rides.  It’s about 120k of which the section down to the Gold Coast I have done a few times.

So that may be part of the Easter plan, hope you all have a great Easter.
